3-4 Tabernacle and 3-5 Jib Sheet Preventer

3-4 Tabernacle

I bought Dan Reiber’s tabernacle. I cut and installed it as he recommended.I did place a 2×4 on the stern and over the splach rail up against the mast before I cut it. This was to check to make sure it would clear the splash rail. This allows me to lay the mast down, insert the tabernacle connection, and climb into the boat before erecting it.  I also use the bow line tied to the ring on the bow to tie off the mast before I connect the forestay. I found that, if you wrap the line around the mast twice, it prevents it from slipping down. It works great. It is easy to raise the mast single handed. Scroll down to see the progression of raising the mast.

I modified this one. I used a 1/8″ wire cable with a loop under the deck tied to a wood shim. I closed both loops on the cable with cable clamps. They barely fit in the PVC fitting. The wood shim allowed me to tighten the system. I surrounded the wire with a 3/4″ schedule 40 pvc pipe. I placed a short section on each end and a long section in the middle. I capped all three sections and drilled holes in the caps for the wire cable. This allowed the center section to spin freely. I connected the top of the cable to the spinnaker eye ring with a D shackle. The red string is attached to the end of the cable to allow me to pull up on the cable to make the shackle attachment. The jib sheets slide easily past the preventer and rarely hang up on anything.
