3-11 Tiller Extension
A Tiller extension consists of a universal joint and a stick attached to the tiller. I found an ideal universal joint in the caster on an old shop vac. I removed the wheel and inserted a bolt with lock nut through a broom stick handle. I drilled a hole through the pivot bolt for a ring ding. I drilled a hole through the tiller far enough back to maintain a handle on the tiller. I inserted the pivot bolt of the universal joint into the hole in the tiller. I added a washer under the tiller, then the ring ding. I sanded the broom handle down to fit the universal joint. Then I put the 30″ broom handle section on a lathe and turned it down to 9/16″ diameter. I left a round ball on the end for a grip when hiking out. The 3/16 rope loop holds the extension against the tiller when transporting or not in use. It is loose and easily removed.
3-12 Boom Vang
The Boom Vang was an old one from Dan Reiber’s stock. I installed it according to the instructions in the manual. It is important to keep it from tangling when not in use. I works well.
