3-18 Move Main and Jib Sheet Cleats Forward
I used Dan’s Bridge mounting the jib cleats on top as he suggested. I moved the jib sheet cars forward placing the rear screw in the original front screw hole. I mounted the bridge at 10 3/4″ from the from of the CB to the front of the bridge.
I left a 1 1/4″ clearance under the bridge. I also added the Ronstan RF5106 V-Cleat to the rear of the bridge placing it in alignment with the last block on the cb system.
I moved the main sheet block on the CB forward to the old postion of the jib sheet cleats. It is 29″ from the front of the CB to the center of the block mount. I also moved the mainsheet bullet block on the boom forward to about 6″ aft of the CB main sheet block. Now I can sit much further forward and the main sheet does not knock my glasses off when I tack.
3-19 Rake the Mast Forward to Correct Weatherhelm
This was an easy fix. I simply moved the mast step aft using the rear screw hole as the new front. The mast was then nearly verticle. When I installed the tabernacle I cut out the 3/4″ section and found that the forstay was at the end of its adjustment. I may add a block of plywood to the bottom of the mast stump to raise it slightly. I may have lost a little of the advantage that I gained on the verticle correction, though I have experienced no more weatherhelm problems.
That looks like a great set-up for the jib cleats. Did you have the metal bridge fabricated, or were you able to purchase it somewhere?
Actually, Dan Reiber gave me that one. He manufactures them. contact me: I will send you his info:jmichaelcaskey@gmail.com
