3-9 Telltails and 3-9 Adjustable Outhaul

3-9 Telltails

I placed 6″ of cassette tape on the jib as suggested in the manual.
For the shroud telltails, I used a piece of 3/4″ pvc pipe 3″ long with end caps. I drilled holes in the center of the end caps large enough to get the scrouds through. This gave a slick surface to spin the telltail on. Next, I placed and open spring on top of the pipe system. I attached a small home made windsock to the spring with a piece of copper wire which also holds the windsock open and stiffens it out horizontally. To the end of the windsock I attached another 6″ piece of cassette tape. The pvc is held in place about 5′ above the deck by wrapping a piece of duct tape to the scroud below the system. This provides a free swinging tailtel that rarely hangs up on the scroud.

3-9 Adjustable Outhaul

I used the cut off bullet block from the CB conversion with a D shackle and one other bullet block to create the adjustable outhaul. This was easy install and is very easy to operate.

  1. I have only flown my spinnaker twice. I do not pretend to be an expert. I do not have anyone who will sail with me anymore. I cannot fly it by myself. I was taught to rig the spinnaker. I also received help from a book titled “Hand, Reef and Steer” by Richard Henderson, page 51. It is probably available on Ebay for a small price. Maybe I should under take to write a manual and illustrate it on the website. We will see.
